John signed the Magna Carta which
promised liberty for his subjects.
The Magna Carta Memorial stands at
the foot of Coopers Hill.
War Memorial
At the top of Cooper Hill stands a
memorial to the 20,456 Commonwealth
airman of World War II who died with
no known graves.

Also nearby is a memorial made of
Portland stone, which stands on an
acre of land given to the people of
USA by the people of Britain. This
is a very peaceful area of broad water
meadows beside the Thames, which flows
between willow and reed fringed banks.

Just a few miles away on the A30 .
Around 5,000 acres of beautiful woodland
surrounding the lake, with follies
and 100ft totem pole. Open dawn –
dusk.

trails (one to the Iron Age Fort)
and mountain bikes are available for
hire. There is also a gift shop, coffee
shop and tourist information centre.
